Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has directed the State Police to launch a criminal investigation following allegations that staff at Centreville High School, located in Fairfax County, arranged and possibly funded abortions for underage students—without notifying their parents.
One case involves a 17-year-old student who allegedly had an abortion coordinated by school personnel in 2021. Reports suggest public funds—local, state, or federal—may have been used to pay for the procedures, prompting both legal and ethical concerns statewide.

Governor Youngkin Demands Full Investigation
Governor Youngkin issued a formal statement expressing deep concern about the possibility that public employees facilitated medical procedures for minors without parental knowledge or consent.
“I am deeply concerned with the allegations that Fairfax County Public Schools officials arranged for minors to get abortions without parental consent and may have misused public funds to pay for them,” he said.
“I am directing the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation to open a full criminal investigation into the matter immediately.”
His administration is treating the allegations as both a potential criminal matter and a breach of public trust.
Fairfax County Schools Launch Independent Review of Allegations
In response to the governor’s directive, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) announced that they had already initiated an independent investigation after first learning of the claims.
“We have serious questions about these allegations that must be answered,” the district stated. “At no time would the situation as described in these allegations from back in 2021 be acceptable in Fairfax County Public Schools.”
The district also clarified it had no prior knowledge of such incidents and was taking steps to verify whether school staff acted outside district policies.

School Policy on Pregnancy and Parental Communication Under Review
According to FCPS policy, school personnel are encouraged to support students dealing with potential pregnancies and promote communication with parents. However, the policy does not explicitly require notifying parents or guardians about student pregnancy-related issues.
This ambiguity has drawn significant criticism. Parental rights advocates argue that facilitating abortions without parental consent violates family trust, and possibly state or federal laws.
Public Funding May Have Been Used for School-Arranged Abortions
One of the most serious elements of the investigation is the claim that public funds may have been used to cover the cost of the abortions. That includes the possibility of taxpayer dollars—whether local, state, or federal—being directed toward procedures arranged by school employees without proper oversight.
If confirmed, the misuse of public resources could result in criminal charges and major changes to how school budgets are reviewed and allocated in the future.

Pro-Life Organizations Condemn Allegations as State-Funded Exploitation
Pro-life groups and parental rights advocates have reacted strongly, accusing Centreville High School staff of bypassing families and engaging in unethical behavior.
“A Fairfax high school secretly arranged and paid for student abortions—without telling parents,” wrote 40 Days for Life on X.
“This isn’t healthcare. It’s state-funded child exploitation. Every official involved must be held accountable.”
The controversy has sparked renewed calls for legislation to strengthen parental consent laws for minors and increase accountability for school officials in cases involving medical decisions.
