Schumer DC Police Takeover: Strong Rebuke to Trump’s Extension Plan

During a Wednesday appearance on The Parnas Perspective with host Aaron Parnas, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer gave a blunt and profanity-laced response when asked if Democrats would support President Donald Trump’s request to extend control over Washington, D.C.’s police force.

“No f—ing way!” Schumer shot back, making it clear that his party would fight “tooth and nail” to keep the measure from lasting beyond the current 30-day limit.

“We’ll fight him to the end. He needs Congress to approve it, and not only are we not going to approve it, but some Republicans don’t like it either,” Schumer stressed.

He added that the move was “just a distraction” and linked it to fears surrounding the Epstein case, saying Democrats would not back down from pursuing the matter.

Trump Says He Could Unilaterally Extend DC Police Takeover

On the same day, Trump confirmed that he is asking Congress to extend his control over the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) beyond the 30 days allowed under the Home Rule Act. However, he also claimed he could extend it himself by declaring a national emergency if Congress refused.

Speaking to reporters at the Kennedy Center, Trump said:

“If it’s a national emergency, we can do it without Congress. But we expect to be before Congress very quickly. We think the Democrats will do nothing to stop crime, but the Republicans will almost unanimously support it.”

Trump revealed plans to introduce a crime bill that would initially apply to Washington, D.C., calling it a “very positive example” for broader rollout.

Last week, he announced a crackdown on crime and homelessness in D.C., deploying the National Guard, federal law enforcement, and federalizing the MPD.

According to a White House official, over 100 arrests have been made since August 7, including 43 on Tuesday alone. The arrests are part of Trump’s March executive order establishing the “Making DC Safe and Beautiful” Task Force.
