Katy Perry Mansion Lawsuit Background
“Real Housewives of Dallas” alum Kameron Westcott has spoken publicly about the bitter five-year legal fight between her family and singer Katy Perry over the $15 million sale of a Montecito mansion.
In July 2020, Kameron’s father-in-law, Carl Westcott — a U.S. Army veteran and founder of 1-800-Flowers — agreed to sell his 8.9-acre Santa Barbara–area estate to Perry for $15 million. He had purchased the property just two months earlier for about $11.25 million.

Later that year, Carl filed a lawsuit against Perry’s business manager, Bernie Gudvi, seeking to rescind the sale. He claimed he “lacked capacity” to sign the contract due to a recent surgery and a brain disorder.
Court Rulings and Trial Details
In November 2023, Judge Joseph Lipner ruled in favor of Perry’s side, stating that Gudvi was entitled to complete the purchase. According to court documents, the judge found that Westcott’s expert witness lacked credibility and that other evidence indicated Westcott was coherent and rational at the time of the transaction.
Evidence cited included:
- Testimony from witnesses who interacted with Westcott during negotiations
- Written communications showing he was lucid and engaged
- Medical reports from his doctors indicating no incapacity before or for over a year after the sale
On May 17, 2024, Perry officially took legal ownership of the mansion when the deed was recorded.

The trial has been divided into two phases: damages and penalties. The damages phase occurred last year, while the penalty phase is scheduled for later this month.
Katy Perry Seeking Millions in Damages
Perry is seeking up to $6 million in damages, citing structural defects, deferred maintenance, and lost rental income. She will take the stand during the non-jury trial starting August 21.

Kameron Westcott and her family will also be present in court. “We never wanted to go to court. We always wanted to settle with her,” Kameron said. “Especially when my father-in-law has Huntington’s disease and dementia. This is the last thing we want to deal with.”
She described the emotional toll on the family, saying Carl is now in memory care, bedridden, unable to speak, feed himself, or even hold a glass of water.
Orlando Bloom’s Role in the Legal Battle
The Westcott family has pushed for Perry’s ex, Orlando Bloom, to testify. According to Chart Westcott, Carl’s son, Bloom once told their property manager he was “in charge of repairs,” making him a potential fact witness since Perry’s damages claim includes repair costs.
Bloom, listed as a manager of Daisy Dove B LLC (the entity that owns the house), was subpoenaed and added to the joint witness list. However, the judge questioned the relevance of Bloom’s testimony, suggesting it might turn the case into a “celebrity circus.”

Kameron Westcott Criticizes Perry and Bloom
Kameron has been outspoken in her criticism of Perry and Bloom, accusing them of lacking compassion.
“They have absolutely no empathy for other people,” she said. “If they did, they would try to settle and move on. I hope this never happens to their family members, because it’s heartbreaking.”
She emphasized that for her family, the case is about fairness — whether celebrities should follow the same rules as everyone else. “It’s not about the money,” Chart Westcott added. “The rules shouldn’t bend just because you’re famous.”
Hopes to End the Legal Dispute
Kameron expressed her wish to end the Katy Perry legal battle so that Carl can have peace in his final days. “We just want this over so my father-in-law can rest. He’s a fighter, but it’s time for him to have peace.”
Representatives for Perry and Bloom did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
