These crafts are budget-friendly, easy to make, and will add that special American charm to your home or party. Whether you’re decorating your front porch, backyard, or kitchen table, these ideas will help you shine bright like a sparkler!
1. Craft Ideas 4th of July Lace Flag Banner

Bring a vintage touch to your decor with a lace flag banner. Using strips of lace, red and blue fabric, and burlap, create a flowing banner that mimics the American flag. Hang it across your mantel, porch railing, or fence. It’s soft, rustic, and totally eye-catching.
Supplies needed
white lace, red ribbon, blue fabric, sewing machine
Step by Step Instructions
1. For the top strip of the banner, cut a 30″ piece of lace. You want this piece to be a fairly wide piece, mine is 2.5″ wide. Pin off a 15″ section in the center of the strip.
2. Cut out white/cream lace patterns that are approximately 25″ long. I have about 14 strips of varying widths. Place the top edge of the strips about 1/2″ over your top strip.
3. Cut 7 pieces of red ribbons or red fabric strips 25″ long. Place the top edge of the red ribbons/strips about 1/2″ over your top strip.
4. Cut a 7″x10″ rectangle from a piece of blue fabric, place it over the top of your strips.
5. Fold the top strip down over the lace strips/ribbons/fabric and pin them all together.
6. Sew along the top strip, stitching through all of the layers of lace and ribbons.
2. 4th of July American Flag Wall Art

Nothing says patriotic like the stars and stripes! Create a DIY American flag using wooden slats or even old pallet wood. Paint the boards with acrylic red, white, and blue paint, and add wooden or painted stars to complete the look. It’s a timeless piece that can be reused every year.
Supplies needed
Beadboard, cut to size (16×20)
Craft paint- Blue, White, and Red
Sander
Wood Stain
Step by Step Instructions
1. Cut Beadboard to size of flag you want – mine measures 16 x 20″.
2. Use a ruler and pencil to draw the square where the blue of the flag and the star belong, This makes it easier to know where your stripes start and end too.
3. Paint this square blue first before paint your stripes so it has time to dry so you can paint your star or apply a Wooden cutout star.
4. While the blue paint is drying you can start painting your stripes- I used 2 lines for each color red and white.
5. Next, trace the star on on your blue square. I made my star from a stencil but you can print off a picture of a star from your computer and trace around that or go buy a stencil, whatever you prefer for this step. I carefully painted the stars white. I would strongly suggest using a small brush or stencil brush to paint on the white star.
6. Once the paint had all dried- sand down with sandpaper, especially the sides and edges. That way when you stain them they become darker and give a great Antique look. Next, take wood stain and wipe it on the flag to give it an antique look to it using a big foam brush lightly dipped into a walnut wood stain then brushed on the corners and sides of the flag.
Hint: QUICKLY wipe off the stain with a close nit piece of fabric… the longer the stain is on the wood, the darker the stain stays. You just want an antique look not a burnt look.
3. Rustic 4th of July Wreath

Greet your guests with a 4th of July wreath made from grapevine or a wire wreath frame. Use burlap ribbon, miniature American flags, fabric flowers, and red-white-blue garlands to build a rustic and welcoming entrance to your home.
Supplies needed
Dry vines, Cardstock- blue and red, Scissors, Glue, Burlap fabric.
Step by Step Instructions
1. Take a piece of cardstock and cut it into a 6 point flower pattern. Cut out any one petal (point) and glue the sides of the 1st and the 5th petal along their sides.
2. Also cut a round spiral out of another cardstock (same color). Roll the spiral cardstock towards the center and apply glue on the center.
3. Now glue the rolled flower piece on the center of the petaled flower. It look quite like a gardenia. Add a bead on the center of the flower as well.
4. Prepare a few more items for the wreath. Such as, take off some threads from the burlap, some red and blue wooden beads, burlap strip and so on.
5. Start gluing the items on the wreath. Decorate any one side and 2/3 of the wreath. Make sure to arrange and glue the items neatly. Allow the glue to dry and the wreath will be ready.
4. Star Topiary Centerpiece

Add a touch of sparkle to your table with a star topiary. Use foam stars, glitter spray, and wooden skewers to build this eye-catching piece. Stick them into a painted flower pot filled with floral foam and add some moss or confetti at the base. Perfect for centerpieces or patio tables!
Supplies needed
3 styrofoam balls (approx. 5 inches in diameter)
Red, blue, and white craft paint (or spray paint)
Foam brush
Star paper punch
3–4 sheets of double-sided scrapbook paper (12″x12″ per topiary)
Pearl-head pins
Wooden dowel rods
3 small metal pails or containers
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Extra styrofoam for inside the pails
Crinkled paper or filler to cover foam in pails
Step by Step Instructions
1. Begin by painting your styrofoam balls. Paint one red, one blue, and leave the third one white. This step is optional, but it helps to create a more polished look in case the foam peeks through between the stars. Use a foam brush and craft paint for easy application.
2. Use a star-shaped paper punch to cut out lots of stars from the scrapbook paper. You’ll need quite a few—around 3–4 sheets of 12″x12″ paper for each topiary. If you’re using double-sided paper, use both sides to add variety and texture.
3. Take two stars and place them together. Insert a pearl-head pin through the center and push it into the styrofoam ball. Continue pinning stars all over the ball, overlapping them slightly to cover the surface completely.
4. Once all the stars are attached, insert a wooden dowel into the bottom of the ball. Add a bit of hot glue to keep it securely in place.
5. Fill each metal pail with extra styrofoam and secure it with hot glue. Then, insert the free end of the wooden dowel into the foam inside the pail and glue it down to stabilize the topiary.
6. To give it a finished look, cover the top of the pail with crinkled paper or decorative filler to hide the foam base.
5. Patriotic Mason Jar Vase

Upcycle your mason jars into 4th of July vases. Paint each jar in patriotic colors, wrap them in star-spangled ribbon, and fill them with fresh flowers, mini flags, or pinwheels. These work great for indoor or outdoor tables.
Supplies needed

Step by Step Instructions
1. Apply glue on the bottle and start wrapping it with hemp cord from the bottom. Apply glue after every 3rd or 4th wrap.
2. After wrapping a few rounds of hemp wrap blue and red yarn to give the bottle a 4th of July look. Wrap the bottle all the way to the top and glue the end of the hemp cord or yarn nicely.
3. Decorate the bottle as you want. You can use cardstock flowers, dry leaves, burlap fabric and threads. You can add anything you want to make the bottle look attractive and nice. Enjoy!
6. 4th of July Inspired Hair Bows

If you’re crafting with kids (or just want to look festive), try making patriotic hair bows. Use red, white, and blue ribbon, glitter stars, and alligator clips. They’re great for parade day, backyard BBQs, or festive photo ops!
Supplies needed
Satin Ribbons, scissor, hot glue, needle and thread, blank hair clip and bead.
Step by Step Instructions
1. You will need 3 pieces of satin ribbon, 2 (red and blue) for the bow and the 1 (white) for the middle. The red satin ribbon should be 2 inches wide and 7 inches long and the blue one- 1 inch wide, 9 inches long. But you can cut the ribbons into any length you want. The satin ribbon piece for the middle can be of any width but 1.5 inches long. After cutting the ribbons carefully burn the open ends to secure the satin fabric
2. Apply glue on any one side of the ribbons’ width (for both red and blue satin ribbon) and stick it with the other side. Allow the glue to dry.
3. After the glue dries, hold the glued satin ribbons as shown in the 1st picture of this step, placing the glued area in the middle. Create small folds in the middle to make the bow. Use a small amount of thread for tying a knot in the middle, so that the small folds don’t come off.
4. Take the small white satin ribbon and fold it as shown in the 2nd picture of this step. Wrap it around the bow in the middle. Sew the open ends of the white ribbon using needle and thread on the back.
5. You can simply attach the bow on a blank hair clip using hot glue. You may also attach a small bead on the middle piece to make the bow look more attractive. Wear it and enjoy!
7. Star String Art

Add a modern DIY element to your decor with star string art. On a wooden board, hammer nails in the shape of a star, and wrap red, white, and blue string around the nails in different patterns. It’s a fun, hands-on project that makes a bold wall statement.
Supplies needed
Wooden board, Nails, Hammer, 5-point star template. Red, blue and white string, Scissors, Glue.
Step by Step Instructions
1. Print a 5-point star template according to the size of the wooden board. Place the star template on the board correctly. Start hammering the nails along the outline of the star. Try to keep equal distance between the nails.
2. Rip off the template paper after you’re done hammering the nails along the outline of the star.
3. Take a string, wrap it around any 1 nail and tie 2 knots tightly. Wrap the string around the nails randomly, but try to keep a sound pattern. After reaching the end you can simply wrap the string around a nail and tie a knot.
4. Similarly wrap the 2 other colors. Try to fill and create a nice pattern for the art. You can attach a hanging mechanism to it.
8. 4th of July Pinwheel Wreath

Supplies needed
Scrapbook/printed 4th of July themed paper
Embellishments or buttons
Glue
Scissors
Paper plate
Fabric
Step by Step Instructions
1. Cut out 4 by 4 inch squares from the scrapbook paper. You will need about 7-8 pieces depending on how many pinwheels you want to make to cover the paper plate.
2. Fold the paper diagonally both ways. Crease and unfold. Draw a dot on each line that is 2 inches away from the corner.
3. Cut on each folded line and stop at the dot. This will create 8 different flaps. Apply glue to the center and fold one flap in.
4. Glue each alternate flap into the center.
5. Apply an embellishment into the center. This will hide the glue.
6. Repeat steps 1-5 to make 6 to 7 more pinwheels.
7. Make the actual wreath is super simple. Cut out the border of a paper plate and attach some pretty fabric to cover it up. Glue on the pinwheels around the paper plate to create a beautiful pinwheel wreath!

Fabric scraps in red, white, and blue (or pre-cut felt sheets)
Scissors
Fabric glue or hot glue gun
Ruler or measuring tape
Pencil or fabric chalk (for marking)
Optional: Needle and thread or sewing machine (if you prefer sewing instead of gluing)

Step by Step Instructions
1. Start with a clean, ironed pillow cover. Lay it flat on a work surface with the front side facing up.
2. Cut a rectangle of blue fabric to represent the star field (upper left corner of the flag). Cut strips of red and white fabric to create the stripes of the flag. Make sure they fit the width of your pillow cover and alternate red and white. You can also cut out small white stars (from felt or fabric) to place on the blue field if you want extra detail.
3. Position the fabric pieces on the pillow cover before gluing or sewing. Start with the stripes, then place the blue field in the upper left corner. Add the stars on top of the blue if using.
4. Once you’re happy with the layout, glue the fabric pieces in place using fabric glue or a hot glue gun. If you prefer, sew them on for a more durable, washable finish.
5. Allow the glue to dry completely. If your fabric glue requires heat to set, press gently with an iron according to the glue instructions.
6. Once everything is dry and secure, insert the pillow form into the cover. Your handmade Flag Day pillow is ready to display!

2. On each circle, make 5–6 evenly spaced cuts from the edge toward the center—stop about 1/2″ before the middle.
3. Use a small hole punch to make a hole in the center of each circle.
4. Fold each “petal” (the triangle-shaped sections between your cuts) in half lengthwise to give them shape.
