Amy Schumer Back Surgery: Comedian Shares Recovery Update After Longstanding Injury

Amy Schumer Back Surgery and Recovery Journey

Amy Schumer, 44, is recovering after undergoing back surgery to address pain from a longstanding surfing injury.

On Saturday, the Trainwreck actress shared a photo with her millions of Instagram followers, standing proudly with a walker at home. She revealed that she had a laminectomy and expected a “short recovery” period.

Wearing pink sweats, a red Catskill Mountains sweatshirt, and sturdy tennis shoes, Schumer posed by a staircase and captioned:

“Since my surfing injury back in the day my L5 has been killing me. Today I got a laminectomy! It’s a short recovery and when I’m feeling better I will buy a bra!”

Amy Schumer Health Update: Weight Loss and Hormone Therapy

Schumer’s back surgery comes just months after starting a new weight loss journey using Mounjaro (tirzepatide), following negative experiences with Ozempic.

In a candid video, she revealed that she had tried WeGovy three years ago but suffered severe side effects such as vomiting and nausea. This time, she worked with telehealth provider MidiHealth, finding the process affordable and effective enough to recommend to friends.

Alongside the medication, Schumer’s new health routine includes hormone therapy.

“They put me on estrogen and progesterone because I realized I was in perimenopause, and my symptoms have disappeared,” she said. “My hair is fuller, my skin is better, I have more energy, and yes — I’m talking about sex.”

She also told Howard Stern earlier this year that she carries the GDF15 gene, which made her more prone to nausea and led her to stop using Ozempic.
